PHS Treadsmart, helping to prevent workplace slips, trips and falls!

Slips, trips and falls in the workplace cost employers over £500 million per annum and, according to figures published by the Health & Safety Executive, are one of the main causes of major injury at work. In manufacturing alone, there are over 8,500 reported ‘same level floor’ slip, trip and fall related injuries each year.

The cost of a slip, trip or fall to the employee can be short or long-term pain, the possibility of a continuing disability, reduced quality of life or even possible loss of employment and income. The cost of the incident to the employer may include the loss of key personnel and productivity, the cost of the accident investigation and remedial action, as well as possible damages and litigation costs and increased insurance premiums.

So how can an employer protect both his employees and business against slips, trips and falls? PHS Treadsmart, the UK’s leading supplier of serviced mats (and a division of workplace services provider the PHS Group plc), has a range of matting and flooring products that can help to prevent and minimise such incidents in the workplace.

· Spilt liquids are one of the main causes of workplace slips. PHS Treadsmart has a range of Free Draining Mats that provide excellent slip resistance by allowing drainage of spilt liquids and debris away from the mat surface. In smaller areas, for example, around vending machines or sinks, their Absorbent Mats will absorb any minor spills helping to keep the floor surface dry and reduce the risk of slips.

· Loose cabling laid across walkways is a major workplace trip hazard. PHS Treadsmart provides a range of mats that allow cables to be safely laid beneath them, thus removing the trip hazard from the surface of the walkway.
