Legislation
There is a plethora of legislation that affects industry as a whole. The Data Protection Act is one piece of
legislation that affects us all.
Data Protection Act
Every business has a legal obligation to protect the confidential information it holds on its employees, customers and suppliers. Failure to do so can result in heavy fines or even imprisonment for the person responsible.
We can help you and your business to comply with the Data Protection Act by taking the responsibility of ensuring your confidential materials are handled securely, and disposed of correctly by shredding.
- Certificate of Destruction
- Transparent Audit
- Full Management Reporting
- Peace of mind that you meet all the legislative requirements
WEEE (Waste Electronic & Electrical Equipment) Directive
The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) places a legal duty on businesses to ensure that their redundant IT and electrical equipment is diverted from landfill and reused or recycled. It has essentially been designed to ensure that the millions of tonnes of waste electronic equipment produced every year doesn't end up in landfill, and to extend the life of such equipment.
- Recycling your IT equipment couldn't be easier.
- We wipe all hard drives to ensure no confidential information remains
- We issue you with a certificate of destruction

Hazardous Waste Regulations
Hazardous waste is commonly defined as waste that contains substances or has properties that might make it harmful to human health or the wider environment. It does not necessarily mean that such waste is immediately ‘toxic’ but it could pose a threat now or in the future. By controlling hazardous waste we are helping to reduce these risks.
For more information on hazardous waste regulations please visit our sister company PHS Wastemanagement.
Landfill Directive
The UK Government has been increasing Landfill Tax year on year since 2008. 1st April 2010 saw another increase to a staggering £48 per tonne. At PHS Datashred we operate a zero landfill policy for all waste that can be recycled, keeping our customers costs to a minimum.
PCI-DSS
The PCI Security Standards Council is an organisation based in America, that was founded by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa, to advise other organisations such as retailers how to manage customer data. The standard applies to all organisations that store, process or transmit cardholder data.
