Plants help your business grow
03 March 2010
As a nation we certainly love our plants and a lovely trough display or hanging baskets can mean the difference between your customers walking by or walking in!
Nowadays plants are often used in the pubs and restaurants to make a statement, with bold impressive plants and equally stunning containers becoming the norm. A business with plants is often perceived to be more affluent than those without but it’s often the customers themselves who are now the driving force behind plants in the their pubs and restaurants as we all become a nation of so called plant experts.
Keith Kirkham, Sales Director at PHS Greenleaf, is not surprised. “It’s a proven fact that plants make us feel happier and calmer and have a positive psychological effect on us so it makes sense introducing them wherever we can. And in this current climate, lets face it, we need to attract as many customers to our businesses as we can. If you’re not convinced then take this simple test. Place a few plants in one area of your pub or pub garden and watch how people automatically sit near these plants. Plants are real people magnets and just by looking at plants or plant images we experience the same calming effect as watching a tankful of tropical fish, plus plants are easier to look after! ”
Hanging basket displays have long been the favourite choice for many pubs and we love nothing better than sitting in a lovely pub garden surrounded by trailing plants and flowers from these baskets. But looking after baskets is time consuming, especially with the amount of watering and feeding needed to keep them looking their best. But by simply installing an automatic watering system (which you can buy from any DIY store or garden centre), you can get rid of your watering can and simply have your plants watered at the most convenient time for you and your customers. Alternatively, renting your plants from a company like PHS Greenleaf means they’ll do the looking after you plants and baskets for you.
Bamboos and other architectural plants have become more popular in recent years and often a pub garden will feature a few of these jungle-like plants in their garden as natural barriers or privacy screens. (Have a look at Deco Pots website – they do a fantastic range of what they call live barriers for outdoor smoking areas). Dense plants like bamboo always look even more spectacular at night with the right lighting such as up lighters and spot lights. LED lights for the outdoors are also popular and can be strung around plants such as topiary rosemary bushes and buxus.
An alternative to live planting is replica plants – these products have come a long way in recent years and nowadays it’s often difficult to tell them apart from the real thing! Replica hanging baskets and plants also mean you can enjoy year round colour without the hassle of looking after the plants yourselves. Greenleaf have installed replica plants and trees, in fact we even supplied 10 mtr replica palm trees in Brighton marina, which due to the high winds, site managers could never have considered the live versions of these plants.
