Business in the CommunityPHS Group joins Business in the Community

We are pleased to announce that we have recently joined Business in the Community (BiTC), the UK charity promoting responsible business practice. Led by the Prince of Wales, who has been the organisation’s President for 25 years, BiTC was set up to help inspire and support member companies to improve their wider impact on society.

With a membership of over 850 organisations ranging from small local businesses to large multinationals, PHS is joining a long list of highly respected companies, including many of our own largest customers such as MITIE, McDonalds and Sainsburys. The move to join BiTC reflects PHS’s commitment to increase our community investment and actively encourage our people to support local community projects.

However, the decision to become a member of BiTC was also driven by our Chief Executive Peter Cohen:

“I am delighted that we have joined this great organisation. Our membership allows us to access a wealth of expertise and support to help us improve our business and offer our people more ways to get more involved in the community.”

PHS Group Head Office to host Business in the Community Member’s Forum

PHS Group Head Office in Caerphilly is proud to be hosting the next Business in the Community Member’s (BiTC) Forum on April 12th. The forum provides an opportunity for BiTC members from throughout South Wales to get together and discuss the issues and challenges facing them. Themes for the event range from community engagement to Health & Wellbeing and environmental improvement.

Each theme is chosen by the members themselves and the PHS Group session will focus on environmental credentials and how businesses can better communicate their efforts in this area. Emma Wood, PHS Group Sustainability Manager will be presenting at the event and outlining how PHS’s strategy to communicate their environmental achievements has been put into place. This will include a discussion of employee programmes such as the Group’s’ Footsteps’ campaign and external projects, including the recent Carbon Trust certification of PHS Washroom’s sanitary disposal service – the first waste disposal service in the UK to have it’s carbon footprint certified under the Carbon Reduction Scheme.

As Emma Wood comments, “We’re delighted to be hosting this event and are keen to hear how other companies are tackling the challenge of promoting their green credentials. It’s not always easy for customers to know what is good or bad when dealing with complex environmental issues, but at PHS we are committed to providing customers with accurate and verified information... without the ‘green wash’!”
