When You Wish Upon A Star
Technically it's our Greenleaf division who sponsor this charity, but as a Group, we've all done our bit to help raise funds for it.
Greenleaf's association with When You Wish Upon A Star began way back in 2004 when Greenleaf's then managing director, Steph Hutchings, heard about this fantastic charity helping sick and terminally ill children. What particularly caught Steph's eye was the highlight of the charity's year to send as many of these children to Lapland to meet the "real" Santa Claus. This was an obvious connection with Greenleaf's Christmas tree hire business and so their partnership with this charity developed.
Greenleaf's contribution to the charity has been to donate £5 for every Christmas tree they hire out, every year. Donations have averaged around £5,000-£6,000 a year, that's over £30,000! In addition to the division's donation, Greenleaf staff have really taken the charity into their hearts and done their own bit to help raise funds too.
This had ranged from raffles and bids at Greenleaf events through to production of calendars and staff doing crazy things like dying their hair blue or running into the freezing sea!
Greenleaf's current managing director Stuart Price comments: "When I first took over as MD of Greenleaf, I was really surprised at how passionate our staff are about this charity. It seems as if no-one misses an opportunity to raise funds for When You Wish Upon A Star. It's so encouraging to see. Fortunately I haven't been asked to dye my hair blue yet or anything scary, but staff have got me to part with cash on a number of occasions!"
