All portable appliances should be tested for electrical safety and compliance according to official guidelines and Portable Applianceswith a minimum amount of disruption to you and your workplace.

Regular inspection and testing of electrical appliances helps ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989, which places responsibility on employers to ensure that all appliances used within the workplace are maintained in safe condition.

The Electricity at Work Regulations states: 'As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger'.  So, in a nutshell, you are required to prevent danger from your electrical appliances and systems.
