Slip Testing
Helping you to manage risk
Modern flooring surfaces such as stone, wood, ceramic, resin and vinyl present an attractive first impression to visitors and staff but in certain conditions these hard floors can also present a very slippery surface underfoot. Wet weather or spills of liquid or food can all increase the potential for a slip and injury.
The key to increasing pedestrian safety on hard floors, is to understand the slip resistance of the flooring material in the context of its environment. This allows you to manage the risk effectively by putting processes and measures in place that are right for each individual environment.
Treadsmart’s Slip Testing Service provides you with a comprehensive report which quickly and concisely presents the information to help pinpoint areas for improvement, allowing you to make informed decisions, “many problems which cause slips can be solved by good maintenance” (HSE).
Undertaking slip resistance testing can:
- Reduce the chance of slip injuries, related costs and absenteeism
- Help reduce insurance claims and insurance premiums by helping you to manage risk
- Identify areas that would benefit from increased de-watering measures or improved cleaning procedures - also helping to reduce damage to flooring from foot borne dirt and moisture
- Ensure you have accurate slip test results should an incident occur
- Ensure compliance with the Workplace Regulations
Treadsmart’s fully trained and experienced personnel use Health and Safety Executive
(HSE) approved, British Standard calibrated Pendulum Testers to build up an accurate understanding of the slip resistance of your flooring.
All tests are carried out in-line with UK testing guidelines (as issued by the HSE and the UK Slip Resistance Group). Each flooring type is tested in a number of different places and from a number of different angles as well as under different conditions to build up an accurate and complete picture of the area.
Treadsmart use this data to produce a comprehensive report for your site that clearly presents the results and identifies the risks posed. The risks are classified as low, medium or high and the report also identifies and makes recommendations on the cleaning regime used, de-watering solutions (matting) and the potential for other contamination that may cause slips.
All sites that have hard floor coverings have a potential slip risk, and its not just the obvious shiny reception floors that can pose a hazard - washrooms, kitchens, canteens, corridors and even concrete warehouse floors can also give a slippery surface underfoot and will benefit from a slip testing service.
