phs is delighted to announce that LifeCycle™, our internationally patented, waste-to-energy process has been shortlisted for an edie Sustainability Leaders award, 2019. phs LifeCycle has been shortlisted in the Low-carbon product innovation of the year category.
phs has been recognised as one of the 131 organisations redefining what it means to be a sustainable, ethical and responsible business. Now in their 12th year, the awards coincide with the two-day conference and exhibition, the edie Sustainability Leaders Forum. The awards bring together the most forward-thinking businesses and ambitious business professionals looking to move beyond environmental objectives; deliver transformational change in society and create more value within their organisation.
LifeCycle provides a solution to one of the most pressing sustainability challenges we face. Hygiene products (nappies, sanitary products and incontinence products) are a necessary part of our lives, but disposing of them via incineration or landfill has become expensive and is environmentally unfriendly.
LifeCycle is the only facility in the UK with the technology and capacity to convert these absorbent hygiene waste products into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), and to do so, on an industrial scale. The RDF is used as a fuel source by business and industry.
Clare Noble, phs Healthcare and Waste Strategy Director said: “We are delighted to have received this nomination for LifeCycle. Everyone involved, especially the LifeCycle team in Smethwick, West Bromwich deserve huge congratulations for their hard work, patience and commitment to making LifeCycle work.
We’ve spent almost a decade refining LifeCycle and now we have an industry-recognised solution for this traditionally, hard to dispose of, waste stream. It’s great to know our success has been acknowledged by our industry’s leading decision makers.”
Winners will be revealed at a ceremony on the evening of 6 February 2019 at the Park Plaza London Westminster.
