Crate rental provider phs Teacrate has expanded with the opening of a second wash facility following increased demand set to create up to 20 new jobs.

Located in Durham, the new wash facility supports the continued growth of Teacrate’s business in the food sector, providing crate rental, handling equipment, packaging products and a tailored wash service to customers. With the coronavirus pandemic accelerating hygiene practices to the top of the agenda, Teacrate has experienced a surge in demand from food and retail businesses for crate washing.

This state of the art facility in Bowburn, Durham, offers fast wash turnaround for Returnable Transit Packaging (RTP) including bale-arm crates, plastic trays, tote boxes, pallet boxes and plastic pallets, offering the ultimate reassurance in hygiene. With more than 200 diseases spread through food, outsourced crate washing ensures comprehensive cleanliness and robust hygiene measures are implemented. In addition, throughout the wash process, Teacrate will be conducting periodic bacterial swab testing to evidence the highest standards of cleaning.

This wash plant is Teacrate’s sixth UK site and second wash facility alongside its Midlands plant and is the first to offer all of Teacrate’s services including crate rental and wash, together with packaging supplies as well as dispatching all online orders from one location. The expansion will extend Teacrate’s reach in the north and upweight its national infrastructure to support, wash and supply a total of 250,000 trays per week. Once it reaches its wash capacity, it will support the creation of 20 new jobs.

Luke Staton, Managing Director of phs Teacrate, said: “We’re really excited to be expanding and in a position to create new jobs with the opening of our wash facility in Durham. As organisations seek to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission, they are understandably seeking out robust cleaning and hygiene services to support their operations and there is no room for compromise. As an expert service provider, this is what Teacrate offers day in, day out, and accordingly we’ve seen significant uplift in demand for crate washing. We look forward to continuing to provide our services to our existing customers as well as welcoming new customers on board.”
