1. People lived in Mansfield Rock Houses will 1900

This picture of the rock houses at the top of Ratcliffe Gate was taken in 1971. The last person to live here was John Bramwell, who died in 1900 age 85. He was a framework knitter in the lace industry.

2. Unfinished memorial

Bentinck Memorial on Mansfield Market Place was erected in 1849 is actually incomplete. A statue should have gone into the empty space on top, but that never happened as money ran out.

3. Parliament Oak

The Parliament Oak is a veteran tree on Peafield Lane and is said to have been the site for impromptu-parliaments held by kings John and Edward I.

4. Mansfield's lack of rail service

Following the closure of the Mansfield and Pinxton Railway in 1964 Mansfield was isolated from the railway system until the Robin Hood Line was reopened in 1995.
