This General Hospital was founded in 1953, and has since grown to accommodate all major medical disciplines, as well as a renowned medical college. However, as the hospital has grown, so has light and heavy industry in the surrounding area, causing a marked increase in air pollution. That left the hospital with poor indoor air quality, given that traffic from the polluted outdoors to examination and consulting rooms was at a constant. In addition, the poor air quality was exacerbated by a steady stream of patients, who brought pathogens and germs into the consultation rooms with them.
