What is a pendulum slip test?
Pendulum slip testing is the standard test method used by HSE to assess wet and dry floor slipperiness. phs can undertake a pendulum slip test in your premises, providing you with a detailed analysis with recommendations for improvements.

Slips and trips cost UK employers approximately £512 million per year according to the HSE. How it works
- A weighted arm (pendulum) is released from a set height.
- At the bottom of its swing, a rubber slider attached to the arm contacts the floor surface.
- As it slides across the surface, friction slows the pendulum.
- The machine records how far the pendulum continues after contact.
- The result is shown as a Pendulum Test Value (PTV).
The more friction (grip) the surface has, the lower the pendulum swings afterward, resulting in a higher PTV score.
