The challenge

This General Hospital was founded in 1953, and has since grown to accommodate all major medical disciplines, as well as a renowned medical college.

However, as the hospital has grown, so has light and heavy industry in the surrounding area, causing a marked increase in air pollution. That left the hospital with poor indoor air quality, given that traffic from the polluted outdoors to examination and consulting rooms was at a constant. In addition, the poor air quality was exacerbated by a steady stream of patients, who brought pathogens and germs into the consultation rooms with them.

The challenge

The facilities staff at the hospital tackled the problem by installing AERAMAX® Professional IV commercial-grade air purifiers in each of the nine consulting rooms. Because the units are ideal for spaces up to 130m2, fully cleaning the air in the room twice every hour, 24 hours per day. These rooms typically see thousands of patients per day. In addition, the air purifiers feature EnviroSmart™ technology that saves energy, activating the units only when air purification is needed.

The hybrid 2-in-1 filter, combining activated carbon, ‘absorbs’ odours and volatile organic compounds. The HEPA filtration system removes 99.9% of harmful germs, allergens and particulates as small as 0.3 microns safely and easily.

The result

After installing the AERAMAX® Professional air purifiers, hospital staff saw an immediate improvement, commenting that the air in the consultation rooms was different, cleaner and noticeably fresher than the air in other areas of the hospital.

In particular, the nurses who shuttled patients from waiting areas to the consultation rooms remarked that the contrast in air quality between the consultation rooms and areas not covered by the AERAMAX® Professional air purifiers was significant. Facility personnel also noted that the areas not purified by the AERAMAX® Professional units still had lingering odors, which led them to plan additional AERAMAX® Professional purchases for high-traffic and patient centric rooms.
