What is BOG STANDARD?
BOG STANDARD was created by phs Group and Prostate Cancer UK to ensure public and workplace washrooms provide male incontinence bins, product vending, and dignity for men.
65% of men who get prostate cancer will become incontinent, some for a few weeks or months, others for life*. Yet until BOG STANDARD, most washrooms offered them nothing.
Two years on, hundreds of businesses, of all sizes, from across the UK have now signed up to be BOG STANDARD.
BOG STANDARD is categorised into three tiers
Each tier represents a different level of commitment and support from businesses and the public sector:
Bronze: Basic installation of male incontinence disposal bins in men's washrooms.
Silver: Adds free or accessible product vending machines for male incontinence supplies.
Gold: Full integration of bins, vending, and active organisational support for awareness and fundraising.
How does BOG STANDARD help?
Male incontinence affects far more men than most people realise. One in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, rising to one in four for black men, and many surgical and radiotherapy treatments carry a risk of incontinence as a side effect*.
But the facilities to manage it have been lacking. Before BOG STANDARD, most male washrooms offered nowhere to dispose of incontinence products, leaving many men too embarrassed to leave their own home.
Research commissioned* by Prostate Cancer UK and phs Group discovered:
- 89% of men have used a disabled toilet to dispose of incontinence products despite not identifying as disabled, and doing so leaves 41% embarrassed and 38% self-conscious.
- 78% feel anxious about a lack of suitable facilities before they've even left the house, and 38% carry a bag with them just to dispose of pads later at home.
- 18% of men will only visit venues they've already been to, purely because they know the facilities are there.
No bin, no bag, no dignity. These aren't small inconveniences. They decide where men feel able to go, and how comfortable they feel once they're there.
Two years of progress
Since launch, BOG STANDARD has created a genuine and positive shift in the way businesses approach male incontinence. Helping to reduce stigma while creating more inclusive washrooms.
Morrisons recently became the first supermarket to install male sanitary bins nationwide, meeting BOG STANDARD guidelines in all of their supermarkets. It showed that a change like this can work at national scale.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service also recently became the first Welsh fire and rescue service to sign up, ensuring welcoming washrooms become the standard.
Sport has played its part too. BOG STANDARD's Back in the Game campaign focuses on improving facilities at sports venues. Manchester United and Hull City AFC are among the clubs that have signed up and installed incontinence bins, helping thousands of supporters feel supported on matchdays.
How your business can get involved
Signing up to BOG STANDARD isn't complicated, but it makes a real difference to the people who need it.

Created in partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, the phs Male Incontinence Bin gives men a discreet and dignified disposal option for incontinence waste. It has a large 16.5L capacity, and its slim design fits easily into any standard cubicle.
phs Male Incontinence Bag Dispensers help provide a clean and hygienic experience for washroom users, by preventing bodily fluids transferring on to the lid for the next user.
Stock incontinence products in washrooms
The phs Help Yourself Male Incontinence Vend offers a discreet, convenient way to provide incontinence products for men in your washrooms.
Products like the SureDry Men's Shield and SureDry Pants are designed specifically for discreet, reliable protection, which makes it easier for businesses to keep washrooms properly stocked, and easier for men to find something that actually works for them.
Make facilities visible with clear signage
