The challenge
The private girls’ school, which is in Sherborne, Dorset, worked closely with phs to address some of the washroom challenges it faced, including overuse of paper towels and excessive water use.
The solution
phs installed high speed, energy-saving hand dryers in all washrooms, removing the need for paper towels, which could not be recycled and were being over-used by pupils.
With 126 toilets across the school, excessive use of toilet tissue was also an issue. Mini jumbo toilet tissue dispensers were installed to reduce the amount of toilet tissue being used to control the problem.
phs also installed the FLUSHWISER WC Flush Control on all toilet cisterns, which reduced the amount of water used per flush by up to three litres, giving the school instant savings without compromising on hygiene.
Sanitary disposal was another area where phs advised that a more environmental approach could be taken. Waste from all phs sanitary disposal units is processed by phs LifeCycle, which diverts the waste from landfill and processes it as an alternative fuel source.
The result
phs LifeCycle is a revolutionary patented process that shreds and compresses wet waste to extract the liquid, chemically treats dry waste and turns it into waste bales to be used as ‘Refuse Derived Fuel’. All sanitary waste from the school is now processed in this way.
In addition, phs supplied air cleaners, fresheners, hand dryers, and vending machines to create a more pleasant and welcoming washroom environment across the school.
